Numerical Study of Flow Downstream a Step with a Cylinder Part 2: Effect of a Cylinder on the Flow over the Step

In this study, divided into two parts, the effect on a two-dimensional backward-facing step flow (BFSF) of cylinder placed downstream was numerically investigated. While in Part 1, numerical simulations carried out without were validated using available literature data, 2 laminar regime, different Reynolds numbers considered. turbulent effects structure at horizontal and vertical locations comparatively studied. When positioned below edge mid-plane, over not altered by cylinder. However, other cylinder, added modified flow, increasing skin friction coefficient recirculation zone. Furthermore, pressure bottom wall increased immediately farther reattachment point remained stable recovery process. Moreover, presence significantly influenced dynamics vortex generation shedding leading to an asymmetric wake distribution.
